Designed and built specifically for charter in the
Caribbean, SOUTHERN COMFORT, a 62' Nautical Ketch, truly lives up to her name with the
spacious accommodations you would expect to find only in a considerably larger sailing
yacht.
The flourishes of a Caribbean yacht are present
throughout. From its highly polished woodwork, to the supremely comfortable furnishings,
this elegant vessel is carefully fitted with every attention to your perfect sailing
vacation. While natural ventilation is excellent throughout the yacht, SOUTHERN COMFORT
can be fully air conditioned at any time upon request.

Mike, Sandy and
Chris Lampe
Your Owners and Captain
Owner/Captain Mike Lampe is among the top charter
skippers in the Caribbean! He and lovely Sandy have been sailing and racing
sailboats for over twenty-five years. A U.S. Coast Guard licensed Captain, Mike
successfully operated the first offshore sailing school in Northern California for ten
years, preparing many students for world class cruising. He loves to teach sailing --
making it an unforgettable part of his guests' experience aboard Southern Comfort.
Captain Mike is an avid outdoorsman, including
snow and water skiing, windsurfing, camping, fly fishing, hunting and diving among his
many interests. He is a PADI certified Master SCUBA diver and a private pilot. Mike is
active in community services as a member of Lions' International and a Paul Harris Fellow
of Rotary.
Captain Mike and his wife, Sandy, share a love of
adventure. They met at the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain, and served in the
Peace Corps in Central America shortly after their marriage. They are both fluent in
Spanish. Mike has a BA in History; Sandy has a Masters in Creative Writing. Their travels
and sailing adventures have taken them all over the world -from Europe and Asia to Central
and South America. Most recently, they spent the last two years chartering in the
Caribbean.
Sandy is also an outdoors enthusiast. She enjoys
swimming, hiking, snorkeling, skiing and biking, as well as writing and cooking. Sandy has
established herself as an accomplished chef, a talent she inherited from her dad. She
takes great pleasure in making every meal memorable -- a feast for the eyes, as well as
the palate.
Southern Comfort is eager to extend their warm
hospitality to all those interested in experiencing first hand the romance of the Islands
and the challenge of the sea. They invite you to share the adventure.
In the Fall 2002 to Spring 2003 charter
season, Mike's son Chris will be stepping up to Captain Southern Comfort!
Jeannie Kuich will be taking over Chef duties on board Southern Comfort for
the 2002-2003 season.
Once a Texas girl, Jeannie has been sailing
and cooking in the Caribbean since 1967 on charter boats up to a hundred and
fifty feet. Her culinary knowledge has been gained through her
extensive chartering and on her travels around the world. Jeannie is
delighted to be the chef aboard Mauna Loa since, because of the intimate and
personal nature of the charters, she can tailor the menu to meet your
individual requirements.
An enthusiastic knowledgeable and
competitive sailor, Jeannie and her husband Mike have sailed up and down the
Caribbean and to Nova Scotia and Norway. In 1982-84, they
circumnavigated on Stargazer, their Columbia 50' sloop.
Jeannie has a passion for the outdoors and
for astronomy. She loves to share her knowledge of the night sky and
to tell stories about the stars, and is the author of Soap Operas in the
Sky with her own website, 'Star Gazers in the Caribbean' at www.yachts.vi/stars.
Jeannie's self-confidence, relaxed manner,
and her love of cooking and sailing, all allow her to provide a wonderful
and unique experience for her charter guests.
