Shiwara

Lots of room to splash out

All the time in the world.
| Whether you prefer gentle R&R or high octane R&B, Shiwara
caters to your every need. Sleep in, stretch out, enjoy an exotic cocktail or take a quick
plunge to cool down. Fire up the turbo-charged sounds (there are even speakers on deck)
and choose from our vast library of CDs, or relax with a favorite video. |
We go overboard for watersports

and underwater for sightseeing.
Fancy trying your hand in a one man kayak or on
water-skis behind our high-performance inflatable? Like to try wind-surfing, knee-boarding
or go diving with a qualified expert? Want to check out the reefs and marine life with a
snorkel? Or go skinny-dipping in secluded coves at sunset? When it comes to watersports,
you name it, we got it! |
The very finest food afloat

makes every meal a culinary delight.
While its normal to ask guests what they prefer to -
and not to - eat, we take that one step further by not finalizing menus until we meet the
people who will be enjoying our food. That way we find out exactly what sort of
delicacies people like to be pampered with and what they'd rather avoid. It takes a little
extra time, but we think the results are worth the trouble. If there is one fault with our
food, it's that - being Irish - we tend to be over-generous in our quantity calculations -
but very few guests ever complain. |
Chill out with what you fancy

It's always happy hour.
Just as we don't try to tell you how you should spend
your time aboard Shiwara, neither do we prescribe what you
should drink. That's up to you, but we do provide a lot of choices - from iced tea and
coffee, through tropical juices and freshly made punches, all the regular (and a few quite
extraordinary!) cocktails, iced beers and fine wines to a wide selection of spirits and
mixers. Served, more or less, whenever and wherever you feel like something. |
In comfort. In style. In Shiwara.

It's the only way to cruise.
Forget all you've ever been told about shipboard life. Shiwara
is an experience afloat like no other you're ever likely to encounter. Designed and built
in France as a classic two-master schooner. Spacious and stylish with splendidly-appointed
staterooms that boast large double beds, each with its own en suite bathroom. A dining are
roomy enough to enjoy the cordon bleu meals you'll be served throughout. A saloon where
you can stretch your legs. And nearly enough deck space to land a chopper! |
Rediscover yourself aboard Shiwara.

You may never be the same again.
There is a saying in the Caribbean that "whoever
takes to the sea on a voyage of discovery will, first and foremost, discover
themselves". Shiwara is designed, equipped, appointed and
crewed to facilitate your personal voyage of discovery. |

Shiwara
Crew Profile
Michael
and Karen Rennie will be taking the helm of Shiwara for the
2002 season. They are an experienced charter crew in the BVI and we share
with them a long-term commitment to Shiwara and look forward
to the new season. They have great credentials and will bring the
combination of plenty of sailing charter experience, great personalities,
professionalism, a technical background (with Mike being a licensed
engineer) and Mike is an experienced licensed operator and a diving
instructor. Karen has a background in sailing, cooking and, in a past life,
banking. They are a great couple that can provide that balance of fun and
professionalism.
Married
for 8 years, Mike and Karen success lies in loving what they do whilst
creating a relaxing environment that everyone can enjoy. Born in Singapore,
Mike grew up in Zimbabwe and South Africa. An Electrical Engineer by
profession, Mike developed a love for the wilds of Zimbabwe and a love for
the sea when he moved to South Africa. All through his career he found any
excuse to either be on the water or explore the bush in Southern Africa.
However, it was the sea, which won out, and today Mike is now a competent
Yachtmaster as well as a Divemaster. It is his love and confidence in the
these two fields that allows Mike to show guests the scenic splendors of the
Virgin Islands as well as allow the sailing enthusiast to share the finer
points of sailing aboard Shiwara. Mike has a very simple
philosophy on chartering which is to be able to give a charter of a lifetime
that he would want to experience if he were a guest. Mike has experience
sailing in Southern Africa, United Kingdom, Caribbean Islands, East Coast of
America and Vancouver Island.
Karen
hails from Scotland but grew up in South Africa. She started a career in
Financial Services and at the age of 25 was the youngest Branch Manager of
one of South Africa's leading Investment Banks. She has studied and worked
in London within the financial industry, however her true passion is the sea
and entertaining. Karen joined Shiwara after two years as a successful
charter chef. It is her love of good food and people that helps her prepare
elegant meals creating an illusion of ease and grace that makes everyone
feel pampered. She has studied at a renowned school of cooking in Cape Town,
South Africa as well as run a large kitchen in a very successful pub in
London. Karen's love of sailing developed when she met her husband, Mike. A
highlight of her life has been crossing the Atlantic on a 30-ft sailboat in
1995 and backpacking through South and North America. Apart from traveling
Karen enjoys scuba diving, all water sports and ballroom and Latin American
dancing - which she used to do competitively!
